Tzeyi Koay (🔊 Zee-Kway) is a Chinese-Malaysian, Australian-based lawyer turned fantasy writer. She grew up in a kampung—a small Malaysian village—surrounded by the stories and traditions that would later inspire her work. Her stories draw on Chinese culture and mythology, as well as by her family’s practice of Chinese folk religion—a blend of Taoist, Buddhist, and Confucian teachings.

 

Tzeyi studied Psychology and Politics & International Relations at the University of Melbourne, initially training to be a psychologist before earning her Juris Doctor. After a chapter in law, she now fully dedicates herself to teaching, writing, and nurturing her ever-growing collection of books and plants—including a terrarium built from a repurposed cabinet.​
